Music Program
Our successful Music program is run on a weekly basis by Thea Martin.
MUSIC ENSEMBLE PROGRAM
My name is Thea Martin, I’ve been teaching music at Scott Creek since Term 1 of 2024. In Term 4 of last year, we successfully trialled a small instrumental music program, which we are pleased to be able to continue and expand this year. I have built instrumental and ensemble programs at several schools across South Australia, and my approach emphasizes flexibility, neuro-affirming pedagogy, collaboration, engaged participation and creativity.
The instruments we are currently offering in the ensemble program are guitar and violin. When joining the program, students are committing to one term of instrumental lessons, with the option to continue for subsequent terms.
SCOTT CREEK SOUNDSCAPE PROJECT
- Over four weeks, our senior class have been creating and recording a soundscape that represents the unique sounds of our school. We began with students designing a ‘listening walk’ of the school grounds to find interesting sounds.
- We then reflected on the balance of natural sounds, human sounds and sounds from technology. We then chose five sounds that represented our school best – goats, children, quails, footsteps and trees.
- We created a score to map out the order and layers of sounds in our piece. Using our voices, instruments, body percussion and found objects, we recorded our soundscape. Students learnt about audio engineering, mixing, panning and conducting.
STUDENT MUSIC CREATIONS
- The Possum and Kookaburra classes have used various sounds and instruments to record their own piece of music. Students also created an ‘album cover’ to go with their music.
